Hello friends. A month has passed since I last wrote, so I thought I’d send out an update.
In July, while posting
news on LinkedIn, I came across a writing position advertised by a recruiting company called RedBalloon. This particular company intrigued me because it claimed to match employees with companies that share a similar work ethic and value system.I could get behind that.
The position being advertised was for a full-time, remote writing position for a daily North Carolina news email owned by a company called The Flyover, which was already publishing a national daily news email.
Believe me when I tell you I wasn’t looking for a full-time job. I was perfectly happy freelance writing and publishing Backroad Portfolio (which I’m still committed to and will keep publishing).
But this company was different. The hook for me was its devotion to unbiased news reporting. In a day and age when mainstream media assumes its audience should be told what and how to think, I was overjoyed to find a media organization committed to objectivity.
I applied for the North Carolina writer position. After a few weeks of interviews and tests, I got the job. I’m really enjoying it and love the staff. Every day is a new adventure!
In case you’re wondering, I still have plenty of time to work on
. It’s a passion project I remain dedicated to and something I’m very proud to be a part of.Below, I’m sharing links to The Flyover’s family of newsletters so you can consider subscribing. Each edition gives you the latest news in 5-10 minutes, Monday through Friday—with weekend emails also going out for the national edition.
The Flyover newsletters offer an informative and educational way to start each day. I hope you’ll sign up!

Congrats! I sent the Florida Flyover to friends who just moved there.
I did and it so refreshing to get news without vested interests spinning it.
